The Week Ahead
I’ve a couple of announcements to make before the week commences. First, we will not start running classes this week. Leon and I took off for a seminar in LA about how to make our gym a better place. In the run-up to that we didn’t have time as a staff to prepare for the switch. We will do so this week. Furthermore, the entire conversation about the switch was online. It occured to me mid-week that not everybody checks the site and so they wouldn’t know what was happening. We will make sure that we talk about it during the week and will fill everyone in on the details both here and in the gym by Wednesday.
Next, thank you everyone who stepped up and helped Emily and Lisa run things while we were away. Not only did I hear nothing but great things, but the whiteboard was waaay more readable and the comments were way funnier than if I get left to my own devices.
Lastly, I wanted to share this email I got from a former member:
Hi Morgan and Lisa,
I just wanted to say hi and thanks for letting me come to crossfit on a weird schedule in Feb-March. All of the workouts helped a lot when I went climbing in Ecuador–my climbing buddy and I were attempting some high altitude peaks. There was one called Cotopaxi, close to 20,000 feet high, that I attempted in 2003 and didn’t summit because of my less-than-adequate conditioning back then. We were held back from the summit this time as well but it was due to avalanches on the mountain–the slope we were climbing on started shifting under us so we had to descend. However, we made it past 17,000 feet and climbed a couple of other shorter peaks (albeit still pretty high, one was ~15,000) and I could DEFINITELY tell that all of squats in your crossfit gym, even for a couple of weeks, paid the bills because it felt really easy up there even with a heavy pack. If you want I can send pics. I’m working in Seattle now and we’re moving from Tacoma to Seattle in a couple of weeks so I probably won’t be around much (might try to find a crossfit gym up there…right now I’m just doing the WODs on crossfit.com) but I wanted to say thanks again for your encouragement, which was meaningful even if I was only around for a couple of weeks.
Take care!
