"Stupid Jerk"

10 Nov 09 091

I overheard someone saying that today and it made me feel bad, until I realized she wasn’t talking to me, but was complaining about that portion of the lift.  Then it made me smile. Although I suspect there was still something a little Freudian about it.

Today was a ladder of sorts.  Normally a ladder increases in reps while the weight remains the same.  However, the goal today was in increase the weights while maintaining the cadence of one Clean and Jerk every 40 seconds.  We quickly learned to have a partner to help add weights so the lifter could just focus on the movement.  The lunch class got an extra cardio element from trying to switch plates during the rest period.

As a side note, as I was instructing today I had a brilliant realization of the obvious- there are a lot of components to this movement.  From the pull to the catch, the front squat, and the Jerk.  There is a lot that you have to do right.  I’m sure many of you are fully aware of this, but it wasn’t until I was trying to coach it that it really struck me.  Hey, we each learn at our own pace, right?

    Morgan,
I’m glad you didn’t interpret the real meaning of my comment:) Not only did i like the cardio aspect at noon, but the mental challange of what weights to strip and what to add! In all seriousness I really enjoyed this WOD!

Why are yesterday’s results on today’s WOD? Morgan, are you a little tired from yesterday’s WOD???

  3. Brianne says:

I liked today, I think we should do that with other types of strength componants like snatches or thrusters…that would be fun!

  4. Lisa says:

Great pic of Liz! Way to go!

  5. Morgan says:

Heidi- yeah I realized that later. It’s been updated.

  6. Leon says:

Lisa, I think that was supposed to be a pic of me but Liz jumped in front and stole my thunder.
