Rollercoaster stomach

The picture is of class using shoes in lieu of a weight while learning the Turkish Get Up. It’s a little trick Leon picked up from watching Nic lead his Kettlebell class Tuesday. Which reminds me, we have a new roommate, Nic Anderson who runs the South Sound Kettlebell Club. Most of us, myself included, are only familiar with kettlebells through Crossfit. But believe it or not, kettlebells have been around a lot longer than Crossfit and are a sport and discipline unto themselves. Nic approached me about coming in and running his classes in our space. I immediately saw an opportunity to learn something more about kettlebells and how dedicated “swingers” train with them, and so agreed to it. Plus after spending a good 2+ hours talking fitness with Nic the first time we met I thought he’d be a good guy to have around. Clearly it’s already paid off.
I was also pleased to see Kristen joining the lunchtime KB class. I would encourage anyone interested, to follow her example, meet Nic and try a KB workout. You’ll learn something and maybe even discover a passion for them you never thought you had. At the present time, KB classes are at 12 on Tuesday and Thursday as well as 8:30am on Saturday. Nic is talking about adding a Sunday class too. Nic doesn’t work for me and I don’t pay him anything so you’ll have to arrange to pay for that training separate from the normal gym membership. He will post his class times and prices soon.
On a completely different note, the website for the 2010 Games including Sectionals and Regionals is up. Here is the link to the Northwest Region. Some things I’ve gleaned from it after a cursory glance. First, there will be 20 men and 20 women to qualify for Regionals. Second, Regionals will be held May 15-16 at the Puyallup Fair Grounds. Third, teams will have to qualify at Regionals which will pose some interesting dilemmas for individuals who want to compete in both. Fourth, there will be a masters (50+) division at Regionals which is pretty damned cool.
Lastly, today was a complex little workout that left your abs fried. Who says we don’t do abs?

Thats a great photo of SHOE turkish get-ups! Nice work Leon, I’m super excited about teaching the kettlebell program there at Tacoma Crossfit. I hope I can add a whole new aspect of kettlebell training to everyone’s regimen and I am excited to learn all that I can from all of you there!
