Must not be Washingtonians…

…’cause I heard a lot of gritchin’ about running out in the elements today. And, yes, I did come back in & do it (in the rain). Despite dim anticipation, people got to work and I was impressed with the efforts. Green boxes went to Jeff (10:23) & Alix (12:16)–smoking fast, people. Way to go.
We started the class by working on Cleans. Full Squat Cleans. After all the Snatch work we’ve done over the last few weeks, you did a great job of translating many parts of that movement into the Clean. The Clean’s narrower grip and ending position at the shoulders are the main differences from the Snatch. We’ll chip away at the more subtle differences over the next couple weeks. We’ll also have an opportunity to continue working on many of the same details: setting a consistent, solid starting position; distinguishing but blending the first two pulls; rapidly opening then closing the hips; and driving up out of that lovely full (front) squat. Ben Chapmen cleaning 245# x 2, and Brianne, 135# x 2, gave us all something to shoot for as we continue to work this lift. Well done today!

In reading Amy’s post I was reminded of something, while running in a the rain past the apts down the street, a young girl(standing there smoking) stated “at least it isn’t snowing” and all I said was “If it were I would still be running”
It is funny what we do when it is written on the white board.
Some version of that thought runs through my head almost every day. However, it’s not like we’re dressing up in spandex with leg warmers stepping on and off of a plastic stool in time to Spice Girls. I mean, which is nuttier, really?
For those interested, Here’s a link to the pictures Laurie from Rainier CF took of the Lakewood Officer’s WOD. It was a good time and pretty encouraging and sad at the same time.

Leon,
Check out the first part of this video with Coach B. Talking with you yesterday reminded me of it. It talks about the vertical hip thrust vs. the tendency to extend your hips on a horizontal plane.
