This turned out to not be as bad as I was expecting.  It was a version of one of last year’s Norcal qualifier WODs.  The dumbbell carries and the runs were up a vicious hill which made it a bit worse than what we had to deal with today.  I actually liked it.

A few people mentioned being a little beat up after this week.  Hard training is just that, it’s hard.  Rest should not be overlooked and you should not wait to rest until you are forced by injury or sickness.  Plan your rest, but also learn to back off when you see signs of wear and tear.  I personally would rather take a day off completely than go easy or light on a workout.  But some people are okay with that and you should do whatever works best for you.  Especially when you are still learning new movements.

Someone mentioned wanting to quit crossfit all together after Tuesday’s 10 round workout.  I chuckled about that, but please know that isn’t our goal.  A little outside your comfort zone is where you get better.  “Bite off more than you can chew and then chew it.”  I can’t remember the source of that quote, but I like it and it applies to more than just the gym.  Perhaps the one place you shouldn’t take that advice is at breakfast after the workout.

Next week we continue work on cleans, overhead squats and strict pull ups.  Joseph will fill in the rest.

I have been out two weeks now with injury and crazy work schedules and I really miss my CF fam! It’s a bit of an identity crisis; a piece of me is missing. While setbacks suck a big one, it truly makes me appreciate CF Tacoma in a whole new light: absence deepens the craving for community and strengthens the desire for physical achievement through suffering (I know, it sounds crazy) :) I’m ready to be back in that place again (low back willing). See ya’ll this week!
