DOMS

22 July 09 038.jpgHad enough handstand push ups yet?

DOMS, or delayed onset muscle soreness is something we’re all familiar with, especially after Tuesday’s festivities.  It usually sets in 24 – 48 hours after the activity that causes it.  Movements that emphasize an eccentric contraction (lowering yourself from a pull up or push up) are thought to be the biggest contributors to DOMS.  A thorough cool down and stretch after the workout can help to minimize the after effects.  Hydration and fish oil are two other helpful remedies.  Just rub that fish oil all over.  No, don’t do that.

I was more sore today than Wed. and all the handstand push ups have humbled me.

Just got back from the judges meeting for sectionals next weekend. If you are still on the fence about signing up just do it already. Especially you ladies, there are only 48 competitors going for 20 spots. Even if you have to scale they don’t disqualify for the next day, and if enough people scale or don’t finish a WOD they will look to the scaled ranks for winners.

It is designed to be a fun event for everyone (depending on your definition of fun), so come out and see how hard you can push yourself in a competition setting. After seeing the WODs I will say this, bring lots of ice packs. I mean a lot of ice packs, Jesse’s workouts make our gym look like a day spa.

Here are the first two events for sectionals:
    WOD #1:

Every minute, on the minute, for 8 minutes of:

run a short distance (not specified)
max reps shoulders to overhead 155#/105#

    WOD #2

    For time (12 min cutoff):

40 HSPU (must complete within 5 min)
    40 FSQT @ 155#/105#

HSPU w/ hands on plates to 1 abmat for men, 2 abmats for women.

If im going to sign up I better work on my HSPU and gain a little weight! How many calories does beer add?

I second that motion Andrea. I think I need a bucket now. LOL. My arms and shoulders are already sore.
