Potatoes are out but SPUDs are in?  It doesn’t seem like a fair trade, does it?

I really enjoyed today’s workout.  I mean, I didn’t do it or anything, but you all made it look like something I would want to do.  I love cleans, and hang cleans are a good way to improve the second pull of the clean.  How many of you were able to match or beat your best clean even without the first pull?  Annamarie did with a 135lb hang clean.  What does this say?  Aside from Annamarie being awesome, it illustrates that most of the “magic” happens during the second pull (bar from mid-thigh to the point of hips fully extended).  The first pull, therefore, exists solely to optimize the second pull.  Only a small amount of momentum is gained from the first pull off of the floor.  The third pull is you pulling your reluctant self under that heavy weight.  This is where a little aggression comes in handy.  It’s a race against gravity.
