Don’t Stop Moving
What else can be said about this workout other than it was long and miserable. Something about this combination seemed to churn people’s stomachs, kudos to those that lost or nearly lost their lunch and still finished. Whenever we have a long and terrible looking workout on the board I find it easier to get it over with early in the morning, and after a second breakfast I felt fairly recovered and almost normal. How many of you struggled... Read More
Deadlifts and Coconut Milk B!#*hes
Well, coconut milk for those of us on the clean eating challenge, cow milk for all others. Deadlifts are amazing in many ways. They require a lot of effort, but really you’re just lifting something heavy off the ground. Nothing overhead, nothing explosive, just stand up with it. Even though you are just standing up with the weight, it requires intense focus and mid-line stability. Your entire core is engaged and your back must remain flexed... Read More
By the knife or the gun
Today was a pick your poison day. You had the choice between two tough benchmark workouts in Ryan and Murph. Murph is one that is so ridiculous on the face of it that it’s sort of gained a notoriety in Crossfitland as one of the longest most grueling benchmarks. Times often exceed an hour to complete and because of that we’ve never done it on a weekday. Still, I figured given a choice, it wouldn’t hurt to put it up there... Read More
Well Rounded
Something I like about this version of “Fight Gone Bad” is it makes you do an equal amount of work across all the intended stimulus of the workout. If you are great at box jumps you may hold back on some of the more difficult movements to conserve energy for the easy reps. You can strategize and go easy on the row to have a two minute break to help you get a high score, while that may be smart for a competition, it isn’t making... Read More
Nicole
Whenever I see it, I miss that mustache. Sorry Lisa, it may have to return some day. I figured that our legs still needed a break from Tuesday’s madness and so focused the pain laser on our back, hands and arms. Nicole is a funny benchmark. You set a clock to countdown from 20 while you do as many sets of max pull-ups as you can and jog in between. The goal being to get as many pull-ups as possible. Hands seemed to be the limiting... Fran's Angry Big Brother
Daniel has the same movements found in Fran, but with 55 more pull-ups and a mile run thrown into the mix. I don’t know why I like it as much as I do, perhaps because as bad as it is, it’s not as bad as Fran. It seems we had a few problems with hands from the pull-ups. Apparently not everyone is fully recovered from the pull-up ladder last Tuesday. Don’t worry though, we don’t hang on a bar again until Friday. Read... Read More
Nate
The video is the first portion of the second event from last weekend. Thanks John for making it available. Today was Nate, a benchmark I’ve never done and so didn’t know what to expect from it. I chose it for this week because I was attracted by the reasonable size of the sets. Two muscle-ups are attainable by almost anyone who has learnt the movement, handstand push-ups are always hard but four isn’t so many that you necessarily... Read More
Fran
Well that was fun. Quote of the day: “Why do so many shirtless, homeless people throw up outside of Crossfit?” Read More Read More
