Mobility Thursdays

Starting this Thursday a Mobility-Centric class will be offered to all during the 5:30-6:30pm hour.  The focus of this class is to improve form, range-of-motion and performance.  We will take a specific movement, perhaps the lift of the day, and attempt to set new PR’s through taking the brakes off our bodies.  Consider your body as being a highly powered sports car, but for most if not all of us, the emergency brake has been permanently applied. ... Read More

Rebuilding

I’ve always been a fervent believer in using strength training to cure orthopedic dysfunction, correct posture, and to slow or stop altogether the effects of osteoporosis.  Take me for example, I’ve had horrible posture my entire life.  I made a habit out of sitting in a flexed spinal position, which has given me some nasty self inflicted scoliosis.  It has taken constant work in correcting myself sitting but after two years of regular... Read More

Recovery Time

Part of the allure of Crossfit, for me at least, is to see how much punishment the body can take an keep going.  We do some pretty crazy stuff here:  Deadlifting hundreds of pounds for hundreds of reps.  Squatting for a billion times (last week).  Doing so many pull ups the skin on hands actually tears away. All of this makes us stronger which is, of course, the goal of life.  I can attest to this being true.  Take my “Diane” time... Read More

Mobility Challenge

Notice how the dial on the tachometer is being pushed into the red?  Hear how the engine is screaming under pressure?  It seems... Read More

Inversion Occasion

Leon, what is going on in this picture? Firstly, I am sorry for the wod today.  I was a bit selfish and wrote a workout that played to my strength.  I really like Handstand Push Ups.  My original intent was to only go with the “Circus Act ” but that would be unfair because most of us can not walk on our hands.  If this skill eludes you at the moment you should practice till you can.  Why?  Because Bruce Lee could do it.  At least... Read More

Your Hips Called and They Want Their Mobility Back

Today’s mobility wod was all about hip extension and knee flexion.  I’ve noticed myself getting tighter in some areas as of late and it’s affecting my performance.  We will keep up the work in the weeks to come.  We’re bringing flexy back. Nice job Kris and Emmi on the green boxes for the day.  Muscle fatigue was the limiting factor in today’s workout.  Especially if you opted for the strict version (no kipping). ... Read More
